Coastal Family Portrait : Wells, Maine

My family and I vacationed to Maine since I was a little girl.  Year after year in August, we would leave Pennsylvania by 4am and take a ten hour drive to the North Woods.  Over the years, our friends began coming along and soon enough a tradition of escaping to Maine was always on the calendar.  Now, that I’m lucky enough to call Maine my home, I love when families contact me to photograph them while they are visiting Maine for their family vacations.  There are so many places to visit and a variety of Maine vacation rentals to choose from.

Having your family portrait while on vacation is a great way to capture the joy and freedom you feel when you’re away from your everyday world.  The Nicholson/Johnson family come to Wells, Maine every year for one week.  I’ve known this wonderful family for ten years so it was great to see them all together in this beautiful place and the weather was perfect.

Meet Sarah and Natalie…

Establishing a relationship with my clients allows everyone, especially the children, to feel comfortable with me.  I began at the home they rented in Wells while the family got ready for their portrait session.  The girls were excited to have me around and very willing to be in front of the camera.  Once the family was ready, we used the great big yard at the home as I wanted that as one of their backdrops. Then we ventured down to Drake’s Island Beach in Wells where they like to spend a lot of their time.

I loved this lifestyle family portrait session because the home, the beach and the town all mean so much to them.

Their summers in Maine are a big part of their family history and now they will have these photographs to remember this time.

So thankful I could be apart of this adventure with them!  After their session, we sat on the farmer’s porch, away from the mosquito’s and stuffed ourselves with take out from Mike’s Clam Shack.  Delicious end to our perfect New England day.
