Fall New England Wedding : Spruce Camp : Stowe Mountain Resort : Vermont

I traveled to Stowe, Vermont last fall for the very first time.  The drive was picturesque and along the way, I felt a deeper appreciation for New England.  I met Christine and Chris for the very first time the evening before their wedding at a gathering at the Trapp Family Lodge.  At sunset, I stole them away for twenty minutes and got some use of the vast grounds which has great views of the surrounding mountains.

Christine got ready in her parents bedroom in the home she grew up in.  There were generations of wedding pictures on one of the dressers in the room.  I was enamored then and I still am now viewing the photographs of grandmothers and parents on their wedding day.  I know that the work wedding photographers do is so important yet I must say that seeing these photographs cherished and displayed was a wonderful feeling to experience right before I witnessed these two get married.

They were married at Saint Mary’s church in Cambridge and celebrated with friends and family at Spruce Camp Stowe Mountain Resort.  Wedding planning by Lacy Walsh from the resort.  Entertainment by DJ Top Hat.  Flowers by Christine’s Mom, Karen.  Bridal Boutique : Needlemans.

Confession:

First, I’m confessing because I feel that in a sense us die hard wedding photographers – decades in shooting weddings and events are a version of a soldier.  Yes, a wedding soldier which probably sounds silly to most but to anyone who loves documenting weddings, they know that weddings are very pretty little war zones.  You have to be prepared for everything and anything.  There are times in the off season where I will dream of crazy scenarios that I hope never happen in real life.  Wedding season nightmares as some of us call them.  I’ve been very lucky these eleven years shooting nationally and internationally.  Sometimes after a wedding, I do a little thank you dance that the day went as smoothly as possible and most importantly, the couple is married!

So, one of the most scariest things happened to me enroute to their ceremony.  I left the brides house which was about 30 minutes from the church.  I plugged in the address the bride provided me into my GPS and off I went.  The address led me to an utility road IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE VERMONT.  There was no church.  There were no people.  There was no cell service.  Just cows and fields.  I had never been to this location before.  There were only instincts and I followed them.  It was as if a magic hand picked me up and put me on the right road.  By the time I had cell service, the blue dot on my trusty Apple device was right where it needed to be.  I found the church and managed through my very first, full on, adrenaline dump.  I wasn’t late nor did I miss anything but I did become an even stronger photographer that day.

As scary as that was I learned a lesson and will never forget the time in Stowe, Vermont that I was lost, all by myself, fifteen minutes prior to the start of a ceremony.  Thank you to the classic beauty and her husband, Chris who will always keep her laughing, for having me there to capture your day.

If you’re interested in learning more about any of the details from their wedding, please feel free to get in touch or leave a comment.
