With this collaboration, I wanted to showcase all the different styles and possible locations to create amazing family photos.
These were special photos for me, which is why I’ve included them at the top. When this young boy’s grandmother dropped him off for the photoshoot, I encouraged her to take a few shots with him. Though she initially didn’t want to, I wore her down. Then, the Christmas after these photos were taken, she got a framed version. She told me recently that she cherishes the moments captured in those photos, and displays them proudly in her home. This brought tears to my eyes and reminded me that what I do really matters.
You may recognize this couple. They were the bride and groom of the fantastic Samoset wedding, and now have two beautiful boys. We took these shots at their impressively remodeled home in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
You can take family portraits at your home, or at the hotel you are vacationing in. These shots were taken at the Mt. Washington Hotel and York Harbour Inn.
Who says your pets aren’t a beautiful, and important, part of the family?
When doing extended family photos, I like to break down the family into small groups or couples. I captured siblings together, as well as mother and son. We took these photos at Venture Farm in Pownal, Maine.
This photo session was meant for the family’s matriarch, so I made sure to get sweet photos with her children, and a stunning window-lit shot of her.
This session was a classic fall shoot in the family’s front yard. I love doing fall portraits because the colors always turn out beautifully.
Family portraits are also a fun way to capture children as they grow. This was Mr. Yate’s first official portrait on the front porch of his family’s home.
Another way to mix things up is to have your portraits done on a perfect beach day. At Ogunquit Beach, Maine, I took these lovely photographs of sisters with their mother and aunt.
With these portraits, they were able to showcase what they love as well as their personalities.
The beach is a place where you can throw caution to the wind and really be yourself.
Many of my families don’t want solo pictures, but I’m always glad when I’m able to capture their beautiful faces.
This is one of my favorites. With the sun setting in the background and the two silhouettes, it’s the perfect photo to represent a summer spent with your family.
