This bride and groom really know how to throw a party!
The bride, Alison, is what I like to call a “friendor.” She’s a friend and fellow vendor—not to mention my wizard hair stylist! So it’s no wonder we started out the big day at Artisan Salon ( her studio in South Portland) for hair and makeup.
Alison had her best friends doing her hair and makeup, so she was surrounded by a trusted team who made the vibe very relaxed and fun. There were snacks and some pre-gaming with Prosecco and Chambord.
After hair and makeup was done, the party moved to the Residence Inn Downtown where the groom, Steve was also getting ready.
The light pink wedding dress was only the first of many unique touches that this wedding had. And I loved the lace coverlet.
Her flowers were bound by a long ribbon that matched her dress, and the flowers themselves were incorporated into the groom’s lapel pin.
After Alison was ready, I took her outside for some solo shots. Her grandfather drove her to the ceremony in his antique Cadillac, so we simply had to include that in our pictures.
The ceremony took place at the Oxbow Brewery, a blending and bottling facility located where East Bayside meets Munjoy Hill. They bottle everything all on-site and have a tasting space as well as a gallery for contemporary artwork.
Alison and Steve were married in front of the barrels of aging beer held at the company. It was such a cool backdrop for a ceremony, especially one as personal as theirs. They had a ring warming and planted a shrub with dirt from both of their family homes. I could tell the moment was very meaningful for all.
After the ceremony, I took the couple outside for some evening portraits. Steve is an electrician, so I thought it was appropriate that we got some power lines in the backdrop of some of the pictures. They were a glam couple in an urban setting, which fit perfectly with their overall theme.
Once the portraits were over, Alison and Steve joined their family and friends on the dancefloor. Steve’s uncle had a lot of fun clinking his glass all night, but Alison and Steve didn’t seem to mind stopping to kiss as often as possible!
The reception took place in the gallery, and the decor was awesome! I loved how they incorporated the flowers into the space and the cafe lights. Along the top of the bar, hops were draped on the wood. I thought it was very cool how they tied in hops within their details.
A side note, Alison and Steve have two dogs, both boxers. Their names are Jameson and Stella. Brewery, hops, barrels, dogs names . . .see a theme here? 🙂 Love it!
Fire & Company catered the event with lobster rolls, pizza, salad, and s’mores. There was also a delectable selection of cupcakes. I think we were all in heaven.
I love this sequence of the cupcake cutting, which started out tame but devolved into icing everywhere and plenty of laughter.
Their first dance together really sums up this wedding’s vibe. They chose The Darkness’ “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” and invited their guests to join them.
When the reception was over, I was still so pumped from all the theatrical dancing that I could have gone on for hours and hours. I felt so fortunate to have been chosen as their photographer.
Based on what I witnessed of Alison and Steve’s chemistry, the wonderful people in their lives, and their choice of first dance songs? I’d say these two are up for an awesome life together.
