I’ve been holding onto this lovely wedding to showcase over the winter months…
Since this wedding was at a new venue for me, I decided to arrive early to explore and take scenery pictures.
Shady Lane Farm is a rustic beauty only 35 minutes from Portland, Maine. It has over 60 acres of land, a farmhouse, and a barn. It was gorgeous, with the hydrangeas in bloom and antique pieces like the rusted wheelbarrow.
Since they had already set up for the event, I was able to capture some of the details that made Richard and Breanna’s wedding unique to them.
Richard, the groom, crafted the table they would sit at for the reception.
The farmhouse is equipped with an additional space for the bride and groom to get ready before their big day. I started with the bride and her ladies, who were joined by the couple’s bulldog, Ritchie.
Richard and Breanna got gifts for each other, which they opened at the same time, miles apart.
Not every couple wants to see each other before the ceremony. So, I took some time after both parties were ready to photograph them alone, and with their families.
The ceremony was set in a field surrounded by wildflowers.
Everyone got to walk down the aisle, including little Ritchie!
There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. Literally. It started raining near the end! But it didn’t matter, because the couple never missed a beat.
One special moment I loved was their exchange of vows. They chose to place their vows in the red box that contains a bottle of wine. Each anniversary, they will open the box, enjoy the wine, read their vows, and rewrite them for the next anniversary.
The rain stopped and we were able to finish portraits outdoors while guests enjoyed cocktails and yummy appetizers.
Breanna was so attentive and sweet with Ritchie the entire time. I could tell how much she loves him.
After we finished the portraits, Richard and Breanna made their grand entrance into the reception and went right into their first dance. After that, it was time to enjoy the incredible food by Fire & Co.
Their dessert bar was to die for!
Everyone danced the night away. The barn was the perfect place for the reception, combining a rustic feel with a party atmosphere.
At the end of the night, the groom came up to me and said “I have a gift for you.” It was a t-shirt with a pug on it! It was so sweet and thoughtful, and a reflection of Richard and Breanna’s character.
