Expecting to see amazing photographs from Trinidad? You will. For now, I wanted to touch on something I feel today. I learned many things while traveling alone to Trinidad for 5 nights and 6 days. I learned about a new culture, family dynamics, explored a country through native eyes, witnessed an amazing union of two very different families, reunited with a high school friend after 12 years, watched dedicated people come together and work countless hours to execute a 5 day celebration of tradition. I learned about bug bites, the loudest music I’ve ever experienced and sweat. It was authentic. I was transcended.
Most importantly, I learned that love ultimately proves it’s reality. It can find you in the strangest places, when you least expect it. It can wake you. Stir you from a place you thought wasn’t going to change. It can carve out a space in your heart, you didn’t think you had room for.
In Trinidad, I found a way to understand the things I’ve been learning. For months now, I’ve been dumbfounded at the depths of communication and how it is just a fragile thin line at our fingertips. It’s the key to any relationship, no matter the distance.
I’ve learned that some lines may intertwine, sever unexpectedly, disconnect. Some may be left to dangle. Some may be tied back together. Whatever the case . . . I’ve learned to trust that new lines will always restore the old and guide me to a whole new place.
xoxo . . .
