I always love working with new families. New mom Arley contacted me for a 90-minute session at her family’s vacation rental in Northport, Maine. The rental was on the coast, overlooking the water.
Lush trees and smooth rocks lined the shore outside the home, and on the horizon you could see Maine’s coastline. At sundown, the view was magical. What a place to getaway with your family and unplug.
At first, the younger kids were very shy. It’s important that I find a connection with each family member in order to get sweet, relaxed shots.
Luckily, it didn’t take long until the children were laughing and playing.
Little baby Josephine got to be held by everyone; she was the true star of the day! These photos will be nice to show her when she is all grown up so she can see how absolutely adored she is.
Family photo sessions like these are so important because they bring everyone together. For this family in particular, they hadn’t had photos taken in nearly 20 years. My goal for family photo sessions is to capture the entire family, each individual, and each pair—whether it is siblings, children and their parents, or couples. Most of all, I want the sessions to be as fun and natural as possible.
One of my favorites to capture are the generations. Here, I photographed daughter, mother, and grandmother—three generations of the DeMark family.
A quick note for all those who want to schedule a session off the coast of Maine: it’s a battle out there with the mosquitoes. Bring bug spray!
As I was leaving, I took a photo of the whole family relaxing inside the screened-in patio. I imagine this is how they spend a lot of their time together.
DeMark Family, thank you so much for choosing me to photograph such a special time in your lives.
I wish you all the love and happiness in the world.
xoxo…
