Jena and Jason who live in Madison, Wisconsin were married at the Samoset Resort in Maine. I headed up the day before to document their rehearsal and dinner. The first night there was huddles, toasts, gifts and perfect weather. While I was walking back up from the Breakwater Lawn, I noticed a couple of guys walking through the parking lot. They looked a little out of place and my first thought was . . . they must be in a band. They were walking and talking and I realized, holy crap, I know that guy! One of my friends from photo school just happened to be in Maine on a photo shoot. How about that for a shocker! I had a few moments to catch up with him between the reception and sparklers too! What a trip – such a small world and so awesome!
Back to the wedding! Their wedding day was also graced with picture perfect weather. When I arrived at the Samoset, I happened upon the groom and his guys playing golf. I was taking a picture of the sign and then realized those guys are my people! Talk about great timing happening during this weekend.
I met up with the ladies who were finishing getting ready, relaxing while having blueberry martini’s. Jena had an entire table setup with all of their wedding day details. She was so prepared, bubbly and easy to work with. Once ready, off we all went to my favorite tree on the property for their first glance. Jena and Jason chose to see each other before the ceremony so we were able to knock out the wedding party and family pictures in 45 minutes. I photographed their wedding solo so this is a great example of a full day coverage by me.
Their ceremony took place on the Breakwater Lawn and the COOLEST officiant, Captain O. Kenneth Barnes married them. I loved every word that he spoke. He was awesome! Highly recommend him if you’re getting married in Maine.
After they exchanged rings, vows and a kiss, they shared a toast with their families. While the family headed up to cocktails, Jena, her awesome MOH, Jason and I took a walk down to the breakwater to capture the quintessential Samoset Resort Maine wedding photographs. The sky couldn’t have been clearer – it’s like a movie set when it’s like that in that location and Jena and Jason were the most classic bride and groom to set the stage.
Their reception in the Knox County Ballroom brought on a lot great laughs and without a doubt a few moments of tears.
