Stephanie and Nick have a long history. These Portland natives were friends for eight years before they started dating. Before a much needed vacation to the Gulf Coast, Nick surprised Stephanie with a bottle of champagne, a new bathing suit, and a beautiful engagement ring.
Stephanie got ready with the help of her family and friends, who coordinated everything down to their matching blouses! The bridal gown was stunning, with beautiful lace embroidery and a sweetheart neckline. It looked flawless on Stephanie.
The ceremony was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. The church has a long history, built in 1866, and then rebuilt in 1868 after being burned down. The church, having survived this long, is on the National Register of Historic Places, a Greater Portland Landmark, and a National Catholic Historic Site. It’s towering arches and beautiful stained glass windows were the perfect setting for the couple’s traditional wedding.
After the ceremony, Stephanie and Nick mingled with family and friends before gathering the wedding party for formal pictures. Under the rays of a setting sun, I captured the couple, their friends, and their family on the eastern promenade.
The reception took place at the Westin Portland Harborview, where Stephanie’s parents had been married 30 years prior. Formerly known as the Eastland Hotel, the Westin Portland Harborview made its name as the largest hotel in New England. It’s been a landmark in Portland for 86 years!
We took some exciting shots from the ballroom’s balcony as the bride and groom shared their first dance. Their cake had an extra special touch; the couple chose to use the same topper as Stephanie’s grandparents. It was a beautiful reception, and it seemed like everyone had a wonderful time.
