Wedding Filmmaker : Meg Simone

This past October, I photographed a wedding and worked with wedding filmmaker, Meg Simone.  That day, I was reminded why Meg has been voted one of the 25 most influential event filmmakers in the world.  IN THE WORLD!  The WHOLE WORLD!  And I got to work with her!!  Meg has a really nice, calming flow as she documents a story.  She’s thoughtful, adventurous, always smiling and really wonderful to be around.

Who ever is capturing the stills and motion at your event, it’s really nice to have the team get along and really like working together.  We feed a lot off each other throughout the day and we’re often thrown together as strangers to capture one of the most important moments of your lives.  I highly recommend Meg Simone to create a natural, classic film for your special event.

If you’re a new client, you have heard me mention Meg and so this is a place on my blog, just for her.

Below, I’m going to share Meg’s film of the wedding we did last fall for Mimi and Gene in Newport, Rhode Island.  I’m also going to share her film that won a big award, some of her favorite films, thoughts from clients who had the opportunity to work with her and even how Meg feels about working with me at a wedding.  Also, most of the film’s below were not weddings we worked together so I’ve noted the photographers names with each film.

First up, Mimi and Gene’s film captured at Castle Hill Inn.

“This is one of my all time favorite films because the sound bites and interviews really bring this couple and their personality to life and drives their story. I can make films with and without these candid “interviews” but I love talking to people, so getting the full story through interviews is really my passion. I often think about my grandparents or parents wedding film (which I do have, no sound) – and what it would be like if I could hear them telling me stories about how they met. It would be just as much of a keepsake as seeing the actual ceremony unfold. Of course interviews aren’t for everyone, that’s why I have just as much fun re-telling the story of the couple through the spoken words at the ceremony and the toasts.”  ~ Meg Simone

A Maine wedding film which is now a great reminder not just of the wedding but of a place this family grew up summering.

“I like the diversity of soundbites both from the toasts and the interviews with the family. Many wedding films are just focused on the act of the wedding. Although that is incredibly important, I do my best to incorporate footage that will help remind couples of a sense of place, other stories and moments in time that will be equally memorable for them to reflect back on.  I love that I was able to use the old home videos that her sister showed at the rehearsal dinner. This helps tie in reminders of the brides past while showcasing the present.  ”  ~ Meg Simone

From the bride:
Dear Meg,

I don’t know how to thank you enough for doing such a spectacular job with this feature film (along with the long form edited pieces — truly incredible!).  You captured the weekend so well, and it is just magical to watch.  You are a genius.  I have shared with several engaged friends to say, “you need to find a way to work with Meg… she is the BEST vendor with whom we had the pleasure to work!”  Love, Bri

“Everyone that has seen the video absolutely loves it! We showed it at Christmas and everyone was in tears!!! The editing was just so amazing – I could watch it over and over and over and over!  It breaks my heart whenever I hear people say that they are going without a videographer for their wedding. They are truly missing out!”  Anastasia
Thanks for the photo, Alison Taylor!
Meg’s thoughts about working together:
“There aren’t enough superlatives to say just how much I enjoy working with Melissa. She is so much fun to be around and her personality shines through keeping couples relaxed, feeling beautiful and comfortable in front of the lens.   If you are just meeting her for the first time, you will swear she is a long lost friend. Melissa and I clicked from the beginning. She is a true professional and very easy to communicate with during the hustle of a busy wedding day. Anyone who has Melissa capture their day is so lucky – not just for stunning imagery, but for the knowledge, education, skills, and huge heart behind the lens, creating this keepsake of your celebration.” ~ Meg Simone
Meg, the feeling is so mutual.  I feel so at ease when I begin a wedding day and you’re there capturing the movement and the sounds.  I know you’re producing such an amazing gift for the clients we work with. I feel very fortunate that we clicked and hope to see you at many more events in the future.
